Getting started
When the app opens, what you need, and where you begin.
1.1When can I start?
Early access opens soon. There is no waiting list: come back to this site, it will say when the app is open.
1.2Do I need to install anything?
No. Duendillo runs in the browser on your phone or computer. Apps for Android and iOS are planned.
1.3I'm a complete beginner. Is that OK?
Yes. The A0 course starts with the sounds of Spanish, stress and survival phrases, then the A1–A2 course follows.
1.4I already know some Spanish. Do I start from zero?
No. A short placement test finds your level and opens the right lessons; what you already know passes quickly.
How you learn
Which Spanish, in which language, and how the app plans your reviews.
2.1Which Spanish do you teach?
Both. Choose Spanish from Spain or from Latin America when you start, and change it any time; your progress stays.
2.2How much time do I need?
A lesson takes 10–15 minutes. Reviews and practice fit into a few spare minutes.
2.3In which languages are the explanations?
Words, examples and grammar rules are translated into English, Ukrainian, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Catalan. The interface is also available in Spanish.
2.4How does it know what I'm about to forget?
Every answer is a data point. A memory model (FSRS) estimates for each word how likely you are to recall it today, and a knowledge model (BKT) estimates each grammar skill. Reviews and exercises are planned from these estimates.
2.5Does Duendillo use AI?
Not yet. The exercises are checked by our own code. Practice with the duende — conversations and feedback on writing and speaking — is planned.
Price and your data
What is free, what stays free, and what happens to your data.
3.1Is Duendillo free?
Yes, during early access everything is free. After that a free plan stays, with unlimited exercises and the courses from A0 to A2.
3.2What happens to my data?
Our servers are in the European Union. The privacy notice explains what we process and why; you can download or delete your data.
