How Duendillo works

Short lessons, reviews at the right moment and a model of what you know, built from your own answers.

  1. 1. Start where you are

Complete beginners start with the A0 course: the sounds of Spanish, stress and accent marks, and phrases that help on day one. If you already know some Spanish, a placement test in two short parts finds your level and opens the lessons you are ready for.

  2. 2. Lessons in short steps

A lesson takes 10–15 minutes and has three or four steps. Each step brings a bit of theory, a few new words and practice; the lesson ends with a mixed review. New words climb a ladder: first you meet a word with audio and examples, then recognize it and match it; writing it and using it in a sentence come later, spaced apart.

  3. 3. Reviews at the right moment

For every word, Duendillo estimates how likely you are to still remember it. When that chance drops below the target, the word comes back — as recognition while it is fresh, as production in context once it is strong. This is spaced repetition with FSRS, a modern scheduling model, so you review less and remember more.

  4. 4. A map of your skills

Each grammar skill has its level — not started, learning, almost there, mastered — estimated from your answers with knowledge tracing (BKT). New units open when the skills of the previous one are almost there, and practice aims at what you are ready to learn next.

  5. 5. Forgiving, but precise

A missing accent mark or a single typo counts as almost correct. But when the slip makes another word — habló instead of hablo, esta instead of está — it is a mistake, because the meaning changed. Feedback shows exactly what differs.

  6. 6. Your Spanish, your language

Choose Spanish from Spain or from Latin America; words, grammar and voices follow. Translations and grammar explanations come in your language, and the interface speaks it too.
