Terms of use

Last updated: 2026-10-16

This is a draft. The final text will be reviewed by a legal expert before Duendillo opens to the public.

These terms apply when you use Duendillo on the web or on the desktop app. By creating an account, you accept them.

1. The service

Duendillo is an app for learning Spanish. It adapts exercises and reviews to what you know and what you are likely to forget.

Duendillo is in early access: we keep improving it, so features may change, be added or be removed.

2. Minimum age

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. By registering, you confirm that you are.

3. Your account

Give a real email address and keep your password to yourself. An account is for one person only.

We may suspend an account that breaks these terms, for example by attacking the service or harassing other people.

4. Learning with Duendillo

Levels, skill maps and memory strength are estimates calculated from your answers. They help you plan your learning, but they are not an official certificate of your language level.

5. Learning statistics

We use learning data to measure and improve how well Duendillo teaches, for example how much learners still remember after a month. These statistics are aggregated and never show your name or email address. Aggregated results may be published, for example in a master's thesis or in a description of the app.

You can turn this off in your profile settings at any time; the app works the same either way. The privacy notice has the details.

6. AI features

Some exercises are graded and explained by AI: writing, speaking, pronunciation and conversations. AI feedback can be wrong. A teacher may review and change an AI grade.

Before you use an AI feature for the first time, we ask for your consent, because the data needed for it is sent to AI providers, some of them outside the European Union (see the privacy notice).

7. Your content

Texts, recordings and word lists you create remain yours. You allow us to store and process them to provide the service, for example to grade an answer or to show it to your teacher.

Only upload content that you have the right to use. Courses and words you create stay private until you ask to publish them; publishing needs an administrator's approval.

8. Respect for others

In groups and chats, treat other people with respect. Harassment, hate speech, spam and illegal content are not allowed. You can report and block other users; teachers can moderate their groups.

9. Availability and liability

We do our best to keep Duendillo available and your data safe, but we cannot guarantee that the service will always be available or free of errors. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages caused by using the service.

10. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in an important way, we will let you know in the app or by email before the change takes effect.

11. Contact
